Full Description
The blueprint of this course is for the student who desires to become a creative instructional facilitator.  During this forty-hour itinerary, students will learn the importance of creativity and innovation in the classroom. They will prepare and facilitate instruction on a law enforcement topic of their choice for final evaluation purposes.  In addition, the student will learn about leadership, emotional intelligence, multiple intelligence, effective communication, and role of the facilitator.  Group discussions will include lesson plan and course objective development, training aids, effective communication, instructional design, adult learning methodologies, and development of assessment tools.  Students should be prepared to engage in various activities, discussions, impromptus and fun.  Each student should be prepared to bring any materials needed for their certification presentation.    This course is time intensive and homework will be assigned.  Alice Leffler is the instructor for this course.  Pre-course assignments will be furnished to successful applicants for this course.

This course will count as continuing education for approved firearms instructors under South Dakota state administrative rule 2:01:06:17.05.

This class counts as part of the two required courses needed to become a commission approved firearms instructors under South Dakota state administrative rule 2:01:06:17.05.

Alice Leffler is a retired Sergeant from the Louisville Metro Police Department after having served 28.5 years.  She has served in many capacities including patrol and COP officer, K-9 handler, MDT project manager, platoon sergeant, helicopter pilot, academy instructor and supervisor.  Alice's areas of instruction include cultural awareness, ethics, leadership, organizational leadership, instructional development and problem based learning.  In addition to serving as a Sergeant, Alice has also functioned as a national consultant in the field of instructional development, curricula design, problem based learning for instructors and PBL implementation in academies.

Sergeant Leffler holds a Bachelors of Science degree (Cum Laude) in Christian Social Ministries, and a Master's of Arts in Organizational Leadership. She is a graduate of the 108th Administrative Officers Course at the Southern Police Institute.  She is also a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy as well as the B.E.E from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training.  She has attended the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training Instructors Development Course, The Federal Bureau of Investigation's Instructional Development Course, Problem Based Learning for Police Instructors, PBL Curricula Design Course, and the Canadian Facilitation Course.  

She currently resides in Louisville, Kentucky with her two sons and is employed by Humana Corporation as a Contemporary Strategic Learning Consultant in the areas of leadership and team development.
